International Conference this June 11-13 in Reykjavik Iceland

Focused on

The Science and Practice of Extended Learning, Youth Development, and Wellbeing

Interested in sharing, learning and helping shape the evolving worldwide advancement of young peoples’ positive development, learning and resilience?

On every continent there are innovative approaches to policy, research and practice to make the most of non-school hours. In 2023 we founded GELYDA to create the link between scholarship, practices and programming as well as policies creating local, national and international systems.

After a successful virtual inaugural symposium in May 2024, we are now hosting an in-person conference (with some hybrid elements). The conference will be June 11-13, 2025 in Reykjavik Iceland, hosted by the University of Iceland‘s School of Education. While gathering in person is important, in order to ensure participation is possible for all, we are also pleased to offer online elements, especially for practitioners and others who are not able to join in person .

The Global Extended Learning and Youth Development Association is a new international organization dedicated to understanding, supporting, and improving opportunities for learning, development, and thriving in schools, afterschool, summer programs, and communities.

Respond to the CALL FOR PAPERS Deadline January 31, 2025

The conference theme is “The Science and Practice of Extended Education, Youth Development, and Wellbeing.”

From childhood to adolescence, young people are enrolled in various public or private forms of educational arrangements outside regular school lessons. These activities and programs focus on the social, emotional and academic development of children and young people and they are centered on young person’s interests. They are structured to engage children and young people in their own learning and development and make learning exciting. These opportunities are often referred to as extended education – a term which has been established internationally for this field of education in the last years.

This conference focuses on how extended education opportunities and activities are integral to support youth development and well-being for all young people. We invite researchers, policy makers and practitioners in the field of extended education to come together to discuss critical questions and learn how other countries invest in and deliver these opportunities.

This intimate conference provides opportunities to both present what you are doing and connect personally with leaders and colleagues from around the world. You‘ll gain new perspectives and valuable insights into how others handle the many pressing issues in our field. We hope you will respond to the Call for Papers by January 31st and plan to join us in beautiful Iceland this June
