Welcome from the Icelandic Committee
We warmly welcome you to Iceland to think, discuss, and experience the endless opportunities for learning and development. In Iceland, there is a long tradition of organized youth and leisure activities, with an emphasis on collaboration for the welfare and well-being of children. This conference welcomes all stakeholders in this vibrant field, such as academics, practicioners as well as policy makers.
The School of Education – University of Iceland, which hosts the first GELYDA conference, conducts important research and education for key professionals in school, leisure and extended education activities. The main theme of the conference, Education, Youth Work, and the Well-being og Children and Young People, aligns perfectly with recent Icelandic legislation on integrated services for children. This legislation mandates coordination and dialogue between community sectors, institutions, professions, and staff to address urgent challenges in the lives of children and youth.
Here in Iceland, we live in close proximity to magnificent nature, which provides a backdrop for meaningful interactions and connections between young people, the environment, and each other. We hope that this unique setting will inspire and create fertile ground for constructive discussions and new ideas to promote the science and practice of extended education.
Come and experience a unique conference in the land of fire and ice, where nature and education meet in perfect harmony.
